History

Conventional wisdom recognises Nephe as having come into being at the beginning of the first age, along with the other Primal Deities. She is acknowledged as the creator of the race of giants in antiquity, and in more recent times the elven and dwarven races.

Appearance

Nephe is most often depicted as a humanoid - elven, dwarven or (less often) human, and always as a woman. Gowns are common, embroidered with any number and type of valuable gemstones. She is associated with the colour green.

Worship

Nephe is a god whom sees various and distinct modes of worship from various peoples.

Elven worship of Nephe is in the form of quiet appreciation of the beauty of nature; temples to the goddess will be either within or consist of a grove of the most beautiful trees, bushes, grasses and flowers, sometimes strictly cultivated and sometimes little removed from a wild thicket, but always striking in its vitality and diversity. These spaces are used for meditation, or writing music or prose in worship.

Dwarves instead seek to venerate the goddess through artwork and architecture. Temples to Nephe may resemble grand galleries containing paintings and sculptures and and those of the faithful will constantly strive to bring new pieces, with older ones sold off to dwarven families and sometimes outsiders.

Both elves and dwarves are somewhat leery of the human mode of worship. While temples will commonly feature both gardens and galleries, often the greatest examples in human lands, humans also opt to recognise the goddesses' domain of luck and chance by including places to gamble. The temple will play the role of the house, with earnings going towards the temple resources rather than the temple clerics themselves. A poor game is considered indicative of a lack of favor in Nephe's eyes, and while the inverse is also true winners are considered wise to donate a fair portion of the 'favor' back into the temple. While the elves and dwarves do accept this aspect of the goddess, pious members of the races often consider such forms of worship to be crass.

In addition to artists, merchants of many races will often pray to the goddess for favorable business - and, less often, soldiers might pray to the goddess for their business to be favorable.
