Leaving The Temple Of Kali

Magni asks the Hand of Kali to explain exactly what's going on, now that the immediate danger seems to have passed.

She explains that she is not human, and was created long ago for a purpose. When Magni asks what purpose she advises that she does Kali's will, either staying death or dealing it. The dwarf squints inquisitively at her and asks whether she's staying or dealing death at the moment.

The Hand of Kali enigmatically states that "They have lives like flies, they come and they go."

Landra attempts to summarise the situation, asking "You woke up fully formed, ages ago, as some kind of shape-shifter?". She is corrected, the Hand of Kali is not a shape-shifter.

Tharin pipes up, asking "If you worship death, then why are you afraid of it?"

The Hand of Kali explains that at one time she was not, now she is, and she prefers it that way. She accepts that she is merely one of many.

Tharin asks "How many hands does Kali have?"

"As many as she needs."

Tharin mentions that as a Halfling he has always had the chance to get to know people; he's not used to having to deal with people he doesn't know.

Moit Snabur

Returning to the Barrowsea docks, the party quickly finds Moit Snabur and questions him about the box. It becomes clear that though he was well paid he thought he was smuggling something on-board for the occupants, rather than anything malicious. Moit tells them that he was paid by Burim Lorpen, and gives up his address readily enough the moment aggression is shown.

Burim Lorpen

The Hunted gather outside the house of Burim Lorpen and discuss the best way to handle the situation. It is agreed that Magni will go down an alley and wait at the back door, while the Hand of Kali enters through an upstairs window. Landra asks if anyone else can open the lock, and when told "Well I might be able to, but it's okay, you do it." she shoots the lock out of the frame. Tharin agrees to keep watch outside while the others enter.

On entering the home, Landra and Kul'theras find the body of a man they presume to be Burim Lorpen pinned to a wall and disembowelled. An examination of the organs strewn around the room seemed to indicate that his spleen and one kidney were missing.

Meanwhile the Hand of Kali finds a large chest containing 2000GP worth of uncut gemstones and coinage.

Magni grows bored of waiting for the others to remember him and knocks at the back door. On seeing the carnage, he asks if any of the "finger-wavers" can talk to a dead man. It is suggested that they transport the corpse to the Temple of Kali and pay for a Speak with Dead spell. Magni heads outside and finds a man pushing a privy cart, and arranges to rent it from him for 2 hours.

They empty the chest, load the corpse into it and then the chest into the cart.

Speaking With The Dead

The clerics of Kali agree to cast the spell, and tell The Hunted that they can have two questions, which are as follows:

Q: Who hired you to organize getting the large box onto The Wandering Star?
A: Noooo naaaaame.

Q: Where can we find the person who hired you?
A: Terrestriaaaaal Raaaail-Asssissted Interioooor Navigaaaation tooo Madriiilll It is suggested to the priests that they would dispose of the body for The Hunted. The priests are not entertained by the notion, so it's back into the chest and into his home, getting the cart back in time for the man he borrowed it from, who advises that he "got to touch the left one" for 2 silver. Magni gives him another 5 silver to see what he can get.

Leaving Barrowsea

Kul'theras buys some Iron Rope and the group stops off to retrieve Bali, Tharins wagon and Björn. Then the party heads out of town.

Gnolls Are Bastards

A few hours out, they come across a pair of Gnolls butchering a bear they have killed. They attempt to pass without incident but the pair turn out to be part of a much larger group of warriors and a couple of shamans, who attack The Hunted without provocation. After a pitched battle The Hunted are victorious, and rather relieved to find that one of the shamans had a Wand of Cure Light Wounds with 37 charges left.
