Apparently the Tome of Strahd is an autobiography written by Strahd himself. An unauthorised copy is loose in the world and Strahd is eager to get it back, having had Lady Wachter instruct Sardalis & Pavel to find it.
It is presumed to be in the possession of the man who identified himself as Jim (which only Pavel believed), owner of Benzimar the tiger.
