Korfal gorges on the food Brannock offers as the others filter in to the room.
Brannock asks why he's there. "To see the sights". After this 'joke' is cleared up Ulfgar asks why he was so well-prepared.
He was sent by his clan to the east to investigate the area.
Korfal of the Rhino Clan.
Ulfgar asks if there's a Raptor Clan, and Korfal advises he's unfamiliar with such a clan.
As Obankot asks "Do maybe ANY of your clan ride raptors?" Tyrus suggests they don't pull that thread and advises they've been sent to investigate as well and asks what the Rhino Clan are after. Korfal says they built the original structure long ago, he's not sure what they were looking for exactly.
Obankot tries to make a gift of Shale. It is not well received.
Korfal advises he was left here days ago to see what he could find, while his other clansmen guarded above and searched below. When pressed Korfal advises it's some kind of important treasure.
Those who went upstairs came to blows with the creatures that inhabit this place. Gnolls. The battle seemed to not go well for either side and the next time I saw them they were changed as you saw them outside.
I barracaded myself in but it has been several days.
Tyrus asks how he kept the Wraiths away. Korfal pulls out a bottle of Holy Water and indicates he was able to keep them away with all of that.
Brannock asks if there's anything Korfal wants to know. Korfal asks what they're there for and as Brannock launches into an explanation he is stifled by Ulfgar.
Tyrus attempts to explain that there's a matter of religious importance involved.
Korfal: Do *you* know why you're here?
Ulfgar: We are seeking an artifact of great religious importance.
Brannock offers to help Korfal get out, or he can come with the party.
He needs sleep. They discuss securing the room.
Tyrus swears he will do his best to protect the Hobgoblin, and asks if he's comfortable in their company.
Obankot takes first Watch, Tyrus takes second, Brannock the third & Ulfgar the fourth.
Tyrus expends a casting of Shield Other on Korfal.
After resting Korfal doesn't know how deep the place goes but wants to come with them to see what happened below.
Into The Tunnel
THe party proceeds down the tunnel for some time and come to a halt as Brannock & other particularly keen-sighted people spot a couple of figures ahead.
Ulfgar begins tapping the wall with his hammer, Tyrus asks what he's doing prompting the dwarf to grin to himself and tapping the side of his nose looking as if he feels he's the cleverest dwarf in the history of things.
Ulfgar picks up a loose piece of rock from the ground and hurls it through the illusory wall.
Obankot mentions that there are hobgoblins just as he does this. Tyrus asks if they are friends of Korfal, and Korfal steps forward to peer at them. Obankot says "They look a bit odd don't they?" and Korfal "As if you were one to tell." and begins stalking away towards the other Hobgoblins.
Ulfar makes to step through the wall much to the alarm of others, then thinks better of it and casts Dispel Magic on it.
In the meantime Korfal is speaking in Goblinoid to the other Hobgoblins. Obankot and Brannock both approach Korfel as he does this.
Tyrus is paralysed with indecision, even as Obankot notices that the other Hobgoblins aren't responding to Korfal.
Ulfgar indicates that his spell didn't work and he's concerned.
Obankot and Brannock can see a huge dome of black rock rising behind the hobgoblins.
Brannock and Ulfgar become unresponsive as well.
Tyrus utters a prayer to Nephe as he approaches the others, then noticing the unnatural stillness tells Obankot to grab Ulfgar while he dashes forward to try to drag Brannock back down the corridor. As he reaches out to grab the dwarf "Brannock" turns and says in a monotone "Do not seek to harm this vessel or this vessel will harm you."
"I do not wish to harm this "vessel"... he is my friend and I am concerned for his safety."
As Obankot waves Korfal back to him, the conversation continues.
"To safeguard the safety of this vessel you will assist me."
"Who are you and what do you require assistance with?"
The walls around melt away to reveal a vast cavern, showing the hemisphere ahead is in the centre of the room, then they return.
"Do only as I say. At the top of the tower is an object required to open this chamber. You must go to claim it immediately."
Tyrus says they will need their friends help, the entity advises that his friends will assist. Tyrus starts to leave and sees Brannock following so increases his speed.
Brannock and Ulfgar continue to seem stunned as they come along.
Gnolls!
They return to the ground floor and ascend the stairs heading up the tower. They are immediately confronted with large amounts of debris. Also there are Gnolls. Five of them. They can also see planks forming a ramp leading up from another level 30 feet above to another higher level.
Obankot "Tyrus, do we shoot these?"
Tyrus "Not if we can negotiate our way past... Uh... hello? We come peacefully..."
The Gnolls scamper away from the party, yipping loudly between themselves.
Obankot notices a gap 30 feet up.
Tyrus casts Freedom Of Movement on himself and heads along after the gnolls, indicating that Brannock and Ulfgar should follow.
Noticing a large ogre with the gnolls Tyrus suggests they find another way up. Obankot uses his slippers of spider climb to head up to the bottom of the planks, with plans to tie off the rope and have the others follow.
He sees other gnolls behind barracades, both down the stairs and up the ramp.
Tyrus indicates that it's a bad plan, considering the gnolls.
Obankot kills the fancy-looking Gnoll on the higher level with a single arrow.
Obankot considers whether it might be worth trying to climb up where the ceremonial-looking Gnoll could work.
