The Search For Sereld

The Engineer continues to work on the airship facade while Landra, Tharin and Kael discuss their future plans. Landra suggests that they head to Glimmerhold to look for Sereld Kelen. The Engineer advises he's heard of it, and that it is a dwarven city. When prompted by Tharin, The Engineer mentions that his mother came from Korvosa, his father from Diamondgate.

Getting back onto the topic of travel to Glimmerhold, Kael mentions that he has heard that the city is faithless. Landra responds that she has heard this too, and thinks that this is an intentional decision.

Killing Time

Tharin and Kael take advantage of the down time to have a friendly bout of competitive summoning. While they do this, Landra stays with The Engineer, watching carefully as he constructs the ship, asking questions which he seems happy to answer.

After some time they decide to investigate more of the facility, encountering the following:

  • Various Crystals
  • Gold Veins
  • Brown Mold
  • Gold Coins
  • A rune circle which began to glow blue when approached with a black, writhing orb floating above it which they are informed would easily kill them.
  • The skeletal remains of a dragon which The Engineer advised he was studying.

Pimp My Ride

The three comrades talk about outfitting the ship as The Engineer shows them through the facade he has constructed around the hull of The Magnitude. He advises that they have capacity for approximately 3000 lbs of cargo, even after they have outfitted the ship with the usual amenities and allowing for a small crew. Tharin requests advice on how they might kit out the ship to serve alcohol, and The Engineer gives him some information but strongly argues against it if they want to keep the nature of the vessel a secret.

The Engineer also provides them with a map to direct them towards Glimmerhold, telling them it is in the Mindspin Mountains in the country of Nirmathas. He cautions them that if they are unsure, they should err towards the north as if they go too far south they will end up over Cheliax, a nation which he considers best avoided.

As they prepare to leave for Madrill to take on supplies The Engineer gives Landra a machine he has been working on as a kind of parting gift for his protégé. He explains that sitting in the saddle of the two-wheeled vehicle and turning the paddles will move it forward.

Tharin: You should call it the Paddlewheel.

The Engineer: Ah yes, I see, the wheels, the paddles... it's a good name.

Tharin: I'm a genius.

The Engineer: I'm a genius, you named a thing.

Without much more to do, The Hunted bid The Engineer farewell and set out for Madrill in their newly-disguised airship to stock up on supplies before a long journey across the sea.
