[edit] Vistani Visitation

They agree to travel to the Vistani camp after Sardalis has sold some of the cloth he took from the Victor's Bergermeister's ritual chamber.

There seems to be a bit of a disturbance at the Vistani camp when they arrive but Mik'taboe seems unperturbed. As far as he is aware it's something about a missing child.

Pavel is for heading straight to Kasimir, but Sardalis uses Alter Self to make himself appear to be a Dusk Elf, and advises he wants to see what's happened. Lekki is going to head along also and Pavel advises he'll keep as much of an eye on them as he can while moving towards Kasimir's cabin.

When they arrive they find one Dusk Elf being whipped (who is likely Alexei mentioned later) and being abused for not being able to look after one child.

When Sardalis and Lekki arrive they begin to abuse Sardalis for "Coming back without the girl. He tells Sadalis that all Alexei told them was she was heading towards Lake Zarovich. This is Arabelle we're talking about, real important.""

Lekki offers to help if they can but they are in no mood and tell him to leave their property immediately.

Lekki beings to insist that they cannot in good conscience do nothing while a child is missing and are cut off by the Vistani roaring "Go to the lake! Find her! Thats all we know."

Sardalis puts his hand on Lekki's shoulder and convinces them to leave.

On the way down the hill Sardalis says "This is an opportunity"

Lekki "Do you know who this is? They don't seem like concerned parents to me."

"We have the opportunity to make things much easier for ourselves with these people."

They introduce themselves to the guards outside Kasimir's home and they are asked if they

Katrina always pops up in Kasimir's dreams.

Turns out that Dusk Elves sleep.

Kasimir mentions that certain tools do exist in Borovia that may help take Strahd down.

The Amber Temple (far to the south) is rumoured to hold great power, but the details are indistinct.

Pavel & Sardalis get the impression that Kasimir is taking some hope from hearing of their exploits so far in Borovia.

Luvash & Aravale are the defacto leaders of the Vistani encampment.

Arabelle is Luvash's daughter.

When they mention that they plan to head to He also mentions that he had heard there is a beacon on the top of Argenvostholt that emits a silver light which can give people a sense of hope.

[edit] Horse Whisperer

When they emerge from Kasimir's cabin to find that Lekki has released 5 of the Vistani draught horses and they are running wild.

Pavel asks them what the fuck they did. Lekki only responds with "They are jerks!" Pavel is incensed by this but his interrogations are interrupted by a near-miss with one of the charging horses which forces Pavel & Lekki to avoid it while it's hooves barely clear Sardalis' head.

[edit] Lake Vallaki

3 small rowboats are on the shore of the lake. Another sits out 400ft from the shore with a pudgy humanoid figure in it and a fishing line hanging from a pole. The man appears to be whistling cheerfully and occasionally grumbling to himself when he reels in his line.

On closer inspection there also seems to be another smaller figure in the boat who appears to be struggling against bonds.

Sardalis asks Ismark if there are any known dangers in this lake but Ismark can't really comment.

Pavel asks the others "Does it look to you like she's struggling?"

Sardalis casts Alter Self and augments his aquatic abilities, charging for the water and telling Pavel "Keep me informed!". The others hurry towards the rowboat, Pavel shoving it into the water and heaving himself in as Lekki starts heaving on the oars.

They make a terrible job of rowing the boat as Sardalis swims with great speed towards the boat. Pavel uses Awakened Mind to mentally shout to Sardalis "Not going well!" as he drops an oar.

Sardalis manages to grab the rapidly sinking girl and moves her to the surface.

As the fisherman notices the boat heading towards them he calls out that "Don't worry about coming out here, no bloody fish to be had!" and turning to spot Sardalis and the girl calls out "Wouldn't bother with her either! She's no kind of good luck charm at all!"

Having finally noticed that the fisherman had been trying to attack Sardalis and hearing his statements Pavel leaves Lekki to do the rowing and looses an arrow from his shortbow which misses.

Pavel notches another arrow, waiting to see what Sardalis is doing and ready to let loose if he sees Sardalis attack.

The fisherman yells after them that now is clearly the time to take down the fish.

Sardalis makes it onto the boat and the simple-minded seeming drunkard tells him to lay down and he'll be gutted later. Sardalis asks him where he got the girl and he responds that he stole her from the Vistani for good luck.

Bluto turns out to be the fisherman's name and he has been banned from the Bluewater Inn and has some scrawled plan to get enough fish to smooth things over with Dannika.

[edit] Delivering The Day's Catch

On returning to the camp with the unconscious Bluto and the previously very mouthy child Arabelle sullenly coming along. The girl runs into the tent as soon as they get close to camp. Pavel tells the Vistani who notices them that Luvash will want to talk to Bluto.

They are greeted as heroes, Bluto is apparently to be dragged from the back of a draught horse.

Two iron padlocks secure the Vistani wagon, there are poison needle traps set up to harm anyone opening it incorrectly.

They have several options to choose from.

  • A wooden chest
  • A iron chest
  • An onyx jewlellry box
  • A wooden throne
  • A rolled up 10 foot rug
  • A small wooden box

The onyx jewellery box contains something emitting a magic aura of illusion and so is selected.

Six pieces of cheap looking jewellery and an unlabelled crystal vial containing some kind of liquid. Luvash tells them that the vial contains a Potion of Poison.

Potion of Poison Potion, uncommon This concoction looks, smells, and tastes like a potion of healing or other beneficial potion like a potion of resistance. However, it is actually poison masked by illusion magic. An identify spell reveals its true nature. If you drink it, you take 3d6 poison damage, and you must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw or be poisoned. At the start of each of your turns while you are poisoned in this way, you take 3d6 poison damage. At the end of each of your turns, you can repeat the saving throw. On a successful save, the poison damage you take on your subsequent turns decreases by 1d6. The poison ends when the damage decreases to 0.

He takes an elixr from a small wooden box and advises that they should NOT buy these if offerred as a defense against the fog. They are actually just vinegar and seawater.

As they leave, Luvash instructs Luweth to so rotate the wagons in the morning (presumedly to disguise the location of it) which inspires Pavel to take a moment to sneak under the wagon and mark it where it cannot be seen with his chalk.

[edit] Under (and around) The Bridge

As the party head towards Argynvostholt they come to a crossroads aligned at 45 degrees to the cardinal

The road comes to a crossroads intersection, with branches to the northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast. The lower half of a snapped wooden signpost thrusts upward at an angle near the eastern elbow of the intersection. The top half of the sign, featuring arms pointing in four directions, lies in the weeds nearby.

Holding the broken off portion of the sign it reads as follows.

SW Krezk Tsolenka Pass

NW Lake Baratok

NE Vallaki Ravenloft

SE Berez

They choose to head South-East which will take them almost directly south soon enough, but as they start to head across the bridge gutteral roaring is heard from all directions besides to their rear.

Two axe-wielding attackers emerge from beneath the bridge, one taking a swing at Sardalis and another at Pavel. Sardalis withdraws to the other end of the bridge for a tactical advantage while his attacker recoils from Sardalis' Hellish Rebuke and Pavel hits one with Eldritch Blast.

Lekki swings with their quarterstaff and sets their foe on fire, which also sprays onto the beserker beside him.

Ismark steps forward to swing two-handed at the attacker who assaulted Pavel with a sickening crunch and is rewarded for his efforts by becoming the focus of the three foes closest to them. Sardalis punishes one of the foes who is attempting to cross the river with a beam of frost making it difficult for him to move as his muscles lock up.

Pavel & Lekki both attack the foe wounded by Ismark earlier and he's looking terrible. Another steps up to swing at Lekki and they fall to their knees.

Sardalis' attacker struggles up the river bank and is closing on the Tiefling wizard when a muttered incantation from his target causes him to stop in his tracks, held to the spot.

The combat becomes a blur as another of their foes falls and then Ismark and three of the remaining attackers drop their weapons and flee from Lekki. Pavel manages to stab one as he turns to run and blasts another, while Sardalis loses his hold on the person trying to attack him and relocates closer to the end of the bridge, casting Mage Armor on himself.

Sardalis is soon joined by Pavel & Lekki, and together they take down the single-minded attacker as Ismark comes careening back through the brush to scoop up his dropped sword, keeping a watchful eye out for the other foes returning for their axes but none appear.
