Nidal

The Hunted are not particularly familiar with Nidal, but for the story of how they came to be so closely aligned with the dark and terrible Zon-Kuthon.

In a time known as the Age of Darkness, the ancient lords of Nidal prayed fervently to their now forgotten deities, begging to be saved from the terrible darkness that had spread across the land; they received no answer. Instead, the god Zon-Kuthon, freshly released from age-long imprisonment on the Plane of Shadow, offered them a simple deal: survival in exchange for eternal obedience. With no other options, the rulers of ancient Nidal agreed. Ever since, Nidal has been yoked to the will of Zon-Kuthon, and this shared destiny has not always run a smooth course.

Though at one time Nidal was dominated by Cheliax, they regained their independence after a deal with House Thrune to assist with ascendance to the throne in the chaos following the death of the Chelaxian patron god, Aroden. True to her word, Queen Abrogail I of Cheliax withdrew all Chelaxian agents from Nidal and they have maintained their independence ever since, though there are still strong trade and cultural ties to their neighbours to the south.
